The word “repudiated” means rejected, disowned or refused to accept or support something or someone. It implies a strong denial of association with a person, idea or action. In the sentence: The young man who distributed political pamphlets on campus was promptly repudiated, it suggests that the young man was publicly rejected or disowned, likely by the group, institution or people associated with him.
